Was there a discussion on the forum about the new Avast colour, and a motivation behind it? I’ve been using Avast 4 for a long time, and got used for the classy blue. Why the change? To be more visible, have more recognizable brand or what? Kaspersky is green, Norton is yellow-ish (?), avira probably red, panda probably blue-ish etc. Is there an other AV software with a dominant blue or orange theme? New features, menu etc. everything is excellent, just that colour ;-). I hate it.
It is a happy day when the only thing you can find is wrong with the software is its icon colour.
Orange and the rest of the GUI look good together. IMO normal state icons in the notification area should never be yellow or red as these colors draw to much attention. What color is a cars oil light? Orange is a little to close to red and yellow. Blue or green would be preferred as normal state icon with a change to yellow or red when attention is needed. I myself would have used green for the icon and GUI and dumped the orange all together. The GUI would look cool charcoal and green. ;D Hey any chance a future build or version would allow changing GUI skin color?
I agree with the warning light analogy. However, the symbol so beloved and trusted by the Avast community was in fact too close to the symbol used by another company, and that other company registered it first. (I think it was Ask.com.) Sad.
So the new symbol/colour was discussed at length on the Beta board, and there was a lot of user input. From memory, I think a lot of the user input was taken on board, too.
