Hi, I’m new to avast and I love this product. My question is the Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229 download file size from this official site and Download.com or Softpedia are 26.50MB but from FileHippo is 25.18MB Why are they different? Just curious. Thanks.
Personally I don’t know, but it might have to do with what VPS version is contained within the installation file. File hippo is somewhat different to most as they are also keeping older versions and even the latest version may have an out of date VPS.
I also tend to use the download directly from avast.com, a) you are getting it directly from avast, b) that is frequently a faster download direct from avast.com as the others being major download sites are often busy.
Hmmm… I can’t guess anything different than David…
They may be using different definitions of prefixes - M or Mi, one is 1 000 000, the other is 1 048 576. It’s obviously wrong to divide by million when we are talking about file sizes…
Mmm hadn’t even considered that old egg of how they display a files size.
So much like HDD manufactures using the same Mi interpretation when they market their drives and why users are continually saying where has xx GB gone from my HDD.
I think the installers on our web were refreshed - i.e. a new version was build after 4.8.1229 was released (labeled still 4.8.1229, containing exactly the same 4.8.1129 program files, but a new installer executable, and probably a new VPS file).
Within a month or so, the avast! download file has increased in size by 2-3MB! Now the updates have not been as much. What has changed?
Most probably the vps (virus database) size…
