Why this legitimate newspaper site is detected as virus by avast?

Hi newuser2009,

Thanks for reporting. Yes actually a lot of these problems are created by hosters, website admins and webmasters that have not cleaned up their act, older vulnerable software, being redirecting sites for malcode is a possibility then. This is another indication to bring in the proposed Content Security Policy where the server determines what a browser or legit bot is allowed to do, and a browser knows what the server is supposed to do, so that third party intrusion can be averted at all cost,

Thanks for your input. I tried to communicate with some of these problem sites but never got a courtesy reply. Can avast or anyone else try to write few lines to those folks?

As a side question, when avast popup that malware warning, if I click on “abort connection”, am I safe ?

Hmmm… maybe they’re the first interested on correct their own site…

Yes, the traffic was blocked even before any file was saved to your computer.

Those who have responded in this topic are avast users just like yourself so we have no authority to do so. I somehow doubt avast (Alwil Software) would get involved with this kind of thing, as you are finding it is a thankless task. It is also one which would require a huge amount of time (unpaid) to find the contact details and contact those responsible and convey the same information that you have.

You only have to brows this forum to get an idea of how big this task would be to contact infected web sites and this has to be the tip of the iceberg, e.g. those who take the time to report it in the forums. When a detection is made there is some basic information malware name, file name, location, etc. gathered for stats (http://www.avast.com/eng/latest-virus-report.html) purposes and this would give an idea of just how big this method of attack it now.

You should be good to go as the infected item/action should be blocked.

I understand the difficulty of the problem. I guess the site admins don’t put too much attention to our feedback. I firt reported such site here out of my own suspicion that it might be a false positive. Many users think like that when they find problems in the websites they usually trust! From user’s point of view this is very confusing unless someone like me comes to such forum to learn about the fact. At least i learned something.

It is really disappointing when site admins/webmasters (isn’t that a contradiction in this case) ignore your input without investigation it, they aren’t only ignoring you but effectively don’t give a stuff about their visitors security.

Perhaps you should send this story to a competitor and see how many column inches they would give this ;D
I bet they would sit up and take notice then ;D
