I had Avast antivirus free installed on my system and I was rather happy with it. That was until Avast Was was installed despite me not really wanting it.
Is Avast One going to replace Avast Free Antivirus?
If not, why did the forced updates stop?

Since it is a different product (though still free) it should have had some notification and perhaps a pre-checked option box was missed so you ended up with the change.
Notes:
So I can only speculate (not great) on how you might have ended up with it.
Well it’s no longer being forced, so I can tell you that. The computer of which this was happening was imaged so I was able to test it. I can confirm that it indeed was being forced.
Strange that you are the only one reporting this problem.
A product update installed Avast One.
I’ve reported this to Avast let’s see if that helps.
Hello @mintmag,
Avast One is the next generation of security and privacy protection from Avast and is designed to protect users from a wider variety of threats to their devices and personal data. It is currently only available in Australia, but soon rolling out to the rest of the world.
We released Avast One earlier this year as an upgrade for a small group of users in Australia. We are genuinely sorry for any inconvenience we might have caused you with this installation.
If you are willing to share specifics about what you didn’t like about Avast One, it would be helpful for us to make the product better in the future.
Best,
Edward
From a customer relations standpoint, should there not have been
a choice offered?
If this was installed without an acceptance by the user, that isn’t any way to introduce
something new and totally different from was installed previously even if it’s better
and offers enhanced protection.
Couldn’t agree more, this is very poor customer relations and totally unexpected.
Hence my comment

I had previously thought this was probably a missed pre-checked option.
If you want people to try/test it, then it should be no different to beta testing, people have to install it themselves. Not suddenly find it installed out of the blue.
