I downloaded avast! and set it up fine for me (Windows XP), but when my wife got on the computer (her profile) the program won’t let her start it. It says the registration number is “invalid” when we put it in the dialog box.

The number is valid. Use copy & paste method to insert it into avast!
and keep on mind that this number can´t be used on any server
operating system. Also you have to be logged to Windows with
administrators rights.
Odpad,
Thank you - but your advice is not working. There are 4 total profiles setup on my machine - myself, my wife, my daughter, and my son. All of them are setup as administrators with full read/write rights.
The only profile that will accept the code is mine. I have tried the cut and past and retype method over 60 times and it still says “invalid number” and then shuts down the program when in another profile.
Any more advice?

Jay, try the following:
Now everything should work OK even if your other family members log on…
BTW do you use the Fast User Switching feature of WinXP?
Thanks for your patience,
Vlk
