Wikipedia used to spread malicious code

A Wikipedia page has been used by hackers in an attempt to spread malicious code.
It’s not clear how long the vandalized page was live, but the editors of Wikipedia.de moved quickly to delete the links once they were discovered.
Which only proves that no site is really safe.

Sadly, almost any free and open site such as this will be exploited eventually. >:(

Yes, many of the free web space sites (myspace comes to mind) are getting stung and not just because the malicious code in on the site, but off-site links to malicious content. They are using social engineering to get people to click the links or images that obviously don’t show the location or what you might be clicking.

Right clicking on a link and then choosing properties, quite often reveals unexpected results and is a good way to snoop before you leap. ;D

That is right but they are also using page restrictions like hiding the status bar and disabling the right click menu, really easy to do that. However, that should also start the alarm bells ringing, unfortunately the people who are likely to get hit are unlikely to know any of these precautions.

disabling the right click menu
GreenBrowser has a tool to restore the disabled right click function. :)

No problem if you use Opera, not even needed to restore a function ;)
