Someone decided to turn off the power supply out of anger, the PC at that moment has task manager, event viewer and Firefox on. However, the internet connection is already turn off at that moment, the PC also downloaded windows update but have not install yet. The windows update will only install after proper shut down or restart.
When the PC first start up after the power outage, avast User Interface appear during start up without being click on. Is there any problem with avast? Why did avast UI appear without being click on? Will the windows update be affected as well?
Any time Windows isn’t properly shut down, strange things can happen.
I suggest that you do a repair of Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed.
I agree with Bob on this one.
I also suggest to run a integrity check (chkdsk, sfc and such).
When there is a power failure (deliberately done or not) all kinds of things can happen.
Even when you not actively are using a system there still is a lot of data traffic going on.
To/from the memory, cpu, drive(s) etc.
One bit turning from a 0 into a 1 can already cause a lot of havoc.
Avast is no different to any running program when there is a power outage, files can be corrupted.
I don’t know what environment this system is being used home or business. In either case there are power backup devices Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) solutions.
I have a small UPS attached to this system. If the power goes out it provides about 15-20 minutes of power, this gives adequate time to stop what you are doing and shutdown. It provides an audible alert of the power going down and periodic alerts. If there is no response to that when battery power gets to a certain point it can shutdown the system tidily.
I have had this setup for many years and it has saved me (my computer) on numerous occasions.
Thanks for all the replies, however, I have a question, would those files use to repair be affected by the power outage as well?
If all system files etc. can be affected then wouldn’t those repairs files be affected as well? What if the current system or software is not affected but those repair files are the one affected, you will be like trading the good one for the bad one…or maybe both are affected then it feels pointless to do either…
Is it alright to do program update instead of repair? Or is it better to repair and do program update. Whats the difference?
Since program update replace existing file with new files, whereas repair also replace current file with another version of the file. Would choosing either change or affect anything?
It could actually be more than that, your system could be at risk not just files that are open, if a hard drive has a hard drive crash. As well as power outages, you can get spikes and or brown outs, which can actually damage hardware.
All of which you should consider a UPS to protect against these as well not just power outages.
