Will not Launch after reinstall

Windows 98 platform: ashserv will not launch after reinstall. Realtime protection and application “Encounter Problem” when started. ashwebsv appears to be running though? How do I capture the error report to send through my hotmail account? Please Advise.

Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Tried repair still same result. Will try the uninstall and re-install for about the 10th time and will let you know. Thanks :slight_smile:

Please, boot after uninstalling and then run http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe
Boot again
Install avast.

Avast! Problen Encountered… during bootup process. I can only guess that it was ashserv trying to launch. Any Ideas?

I have now done the following:
Uninstalled,
rebooted,
downloaded and ran aswclear.exe,
rebooted,
installed avast, (downloaded this morning),
rebooted

avast! problem encountered… appears during boot process.

This one is becomming a real bugger. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have to turn this system soon so I may have to re-install. :-[

I ran out of time and had to re-install the OS. I hate losing like this.

I’m afraid the error dumps don’t contain any useful info.
The problem may have something to do with MS Jet drivers, i.e. with the ODBC database, but that’s a very wild guess.
