I have a corrupt “Free Avast” application installed on my PC.
I get an error when I try to re-install.
Microsoft XP uninstall freezes.
Wincleaner Uninstall will not work.
I can identify the Alwil folder in “Program files” folder, but I cannot delete these files. ( I changed folder from read only to archive. - No joy.)
Has anyone got any ideas.

Use the avast removal tool http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
If you still have Alwil named files then you are well overdue for a clean install from scratch as avast haven’t used the Alwil name for some years now.

Have reistalled more than once, but Alwil folder has persisted.
Uninstaller worked in SAFE MODE.
Thanks for Help.
Then just delete the “Alwii” folder…

Yes the Alwil folders should be empty and even if they aren’t you can delete them.

Yes, Avast uninstaller cleared all files and I deleted the Alwil folder.
Windows would not let me delete contents previously.
BTW
Avast verification challenges are a real pain. >:(
