This was detected as infected file upon thorough scan by AVAST while resident protection or the other sections of AVAST detected nothing. Tried to upload to VIRUS TOTAL but it was more than 13 MB. Hell of a problem, searched Google only to find in Windows Vista it was unnecessary. Destroyed it. Since resident protection isn’t 100% effective, I will do thorough scans more frequently. I also would like to find a log of all scan results (at least the 10 lasts…) it’ a feature lacking currently in Avast.
Proud of AVAST because it detected the Trojan whereas BOCLEAN, Superantispyware, spywareterminator etc… did nothing… ![]()
Destroyed what, memory.dmp ?
Even if that is correct, that file is totally redundant, is usually created on a crash (BSOD) and is replaced if you have deleted it. It should have zero adverse effect if you delete it.
Also don’t know what you mean by resident protection isn’t 100% effective.
Destroyed it. Since resident protection isn't 100% effective, I will do thorough scans more frequently.
The memory.dmp file is inert and even if was a virus in the memory when the .dmp file was created it can’t really be loaded again.
The logs aren’t lacking in avast they just aren’t in the home version, if you have the Pro version you can retain logs I believe.
Hi, I erased memory.dmp which was infected by a Trojan Win32 virus (the exact name I forgot 'cause I can’t access the log). I know this file is worth nothing but takes a lot of place. I don,t have it anymore. I was wondering why the Resident Protection didn’t warn me first of the infection. It is set to scan all files. Why does it take a thorough scan to detect my latest infection? ??? Also, in the event in very large files infected to submit to AILWIL, how do you send them? Thanks!!! ![]()

it depends on how old the memory.dmp file was as to when the malware was in RAM as the signature may only have included that after the creation of the .dmp file.
-
it depends on your scan settings a look at the avast help file, Simple User Interface, Working with avast! 4 the the User Interface shows the difference in sensitivity as to what files are scanned.

the memory.dmp fil as I mentioned previously “is inert and even if was a virus in the memory when the .dmp file was created it can’t really be loaded again.” So it is likely to be classed low risk, as such would only be scanned on a thorough scan or on access.
You can use Alwil FTP server as a second way to transfer only big files. Upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (please, note that you won’t have READ access to the ftp server, just write - so you won’t even be able to see what you’ve just uploaded).
