Win 7 64 won't start properly, no Avast

I’m running latest Avast 6 and this a.m. nothing worked on Win 7 desktop–no internet access,
Avast has been stopped message, sharing center frozen etc.

First I tried to restart Avast --nothing. Since Win 7 is new to me I’m a bit at a loss as to what is wrong so after a PC restart did nothing I shut down. My laptop is working fine but it is
Vista.

Anybody have any ideas as to what to do first on a restart. This is a new machine Lenovo used
about 3 months no problems Model K330-11691au. Operates with wireless keyboard and mouse. I haven’t had time to update my profile as I’m taking care of my husband after an accident. I only
have the new Win 7 and the Vista laptop now. I would really appreciate any help.

I read the thread and I note my laptop has 111101-2. How can I update if I have no internet
access?

Well, if you already have 111101-2 there would be no need to update anymore.

Can you shut down completely your system? I mean, no hibernation, no sleep mode, no power saver, but complete close Windows Seven and power down the system.

Double check your battery is charged, and if not, charge it before restarting the system. Then wait at least 2 minutes and power up again.

Please report back.

Communications problem. My laptop has the 111101.2 update; win 7 is a desktop and I don’t know
what version of updates it has.

That is the latest database / definition update. If you have Avast 6.0.1289, then you are already updated. Please try what I suggested above and report back.

Well, update your desktop then.

Just don’t worry about this problem anymore. I’m going to re-boot and if nothing still works then
I’m right where I was—no internet, no avast etc.

All worked when reboot occurred. I went into the event viewer and the crash was caused by Avast
hanging up which threw the Service Control Manager into disaster.

I hope this is not going to become a common error.

Thanks for the feedback.
