I’ve installed the AVAST 8 Program update (8.0.1483) on my Win XP Prof (SP3) system hoping it might also address some of the Avast 8 issues with WinXP.
It does not appear to address WinXP issues.
While using Windows Remote Desktop Connection, I right click a file, click copy and the system freezes.
Is there a fix in the pipeline in the short term or is it recommended to go back to Avast 7?
I only use the system remotely. I use it for 3 hours daily, always remotely. The problem above began when Avast updated to Avast 8. To overcome the freezing, I need to call in to get a local user to physically use the PSU power switch to re-boot. If I disable all shields, then it doesn’t freeze. I haven’t been able to test locally. Possibly this weekend I can test locally too. However the problem only occurs since Avast updated to Avast 8 and doesn’t occur with all shields disabled - leading me to believe it is an Avast issue.
well since only like few of the users have reported this to the forum and on plus side many people on this forum using avast on vista/XP/win8/7 have no issues it seems to be a issue with certain system only.I have avast installed on my home machines and on client machines running different OS’s and there are no issues with me nor my clients so I dont know what the issue is…
did you run the uninstaller tool for the AV you used prior to avast?? if not:
Run the uninstaller for any AV's you used prior to avast from here to remove remanents: http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=117113.0
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot
