Win32:Agent-VM there and gone?

Avast detected Win32:Agent-Vm[Trj] on two of the machines in my network on the same day last week. In both cases, it reports that it found the virus in a file called INSTALL.EXE. It apparently found this file in several different directories on both computers, and it does not report that it took any action. When I tried to find the files so that I could remove them manually, they were not there!

This happens from time to time with other reported infections. Avast does not report that it took any action, but then the infected file does not exist when I go looking for it.

Anyone know what’s going on here?

Thanks, Ben

Can you provide some of the folders they were located in ?

It apparently found this file in several different directories on both computers, and it does not report that it took any action.

What action did you select from the options given (e.g. move to chest, delete, etc.) ?

If it doesn’t give an error that it can’t move to chest, delete, etc. then I would assume that the action completed successfully as the file wasn’t there when you checked.

How were these found, routine on-demand scan, on-access, what ?

These were found by scheduled on-demand scans. I’m using ADNM in the network. I investigated further, and looked in the virus chests on both machines, and it turns out the files had indeed been moved to the appropriate chests. So I guess it’s just a mistake an ADNM’s part.

Although this is a virus related topic it may well be better placed in the avast! 4 DNM forum http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=10.0 where those more knowledgeable on the ADNM client can chase down why you got no report on the actions taken.

Unfortunately I only have experience with the avast! 4 Home/Pro program.

Sounds good, I’ll post in the other forum.

Thanks, Ben
