Win32: Bropia-G (wrm)

Hi

I’ve got the Win32: Bropia-G worm on my computer but I can’t find a way to remove it. The avast anti-virus program detects it but everytime i try to repair, delete or move it to the chest it re-appears.

Please can somebody help???

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Please Help us to Help you In order to help fully we need more information…

  • What OS are you using? is it up to date?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
  • What was the virus name, what was the filename, where was it found
    example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
  • What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?

Hi

Windows 98SE
avast version 4.1, vps file 0508-2
virus name was win32: bropia-g (wrm) and its located in c:\

i’ve tried to delete the worm using avast but it doesn’t seem to remove the worm.
also, there are about 10 ms-dos shortcuts in the same location that are infected by the worm that can’t be deleted!!

i hope you can help me.

Does updating to the latest version of avast help? (4.6.603)

Click on the link in my signature and follow the instructions in the malware removal section.

Thanks for the link Eddy, I followed the instructions and my computer is now working fine!!!

avast still doesn`t detect bropia n,p,q,r variants! These variants were detected my symantec about 1 weeks ago.

Do you have the corresponding files (samples)?

sorry i didn`t make myself clear, and sorry for any confussion. i have not been infected by Bropia but i know a few people who have, i checked the avast database and noticed the M,N,Q,R variants are not listed.

These variants were detected aroung 21/22nd Feb. So will a future avast update include these?

The particular variants are usually named differently by antivirus companies - especially when there are many variants of the malware.
So, for example, what Symantec calls Bropia M/N/Q/R - avast! may call Bropia J/K/L/M.
(I’m not saying it’s exactly like that - it was just an example. It’s hard to say without the particular files.)
