Win32:Conhook-L [Trj]

Today (7/21/06) I have had several warnings re: virus Win32:Conhook-L [Trj]. When I attempt to chest it (as suggested), i am informed that cannot be done. any suggestions?

It will help to know the name (and the path) of the infected file.

Are you using Windows XP?
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.

What was the file name, where was it found example (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
What was the reason it couldn’t be done ?

Windows in its infinite wisdom protects files in use (even malware), so it is likely that avast! can’t delete or move files in use. So schedule boot-time scan (as Tech suggests) in avast’s menu if you have XP, win2k or NT, otherwise boot into safe mode and run an avast scan. This should ensure that the file isn’t in use and avast should be able to deal with it.
