This virus was found on my maching, and is now in the Chest (the only choice I had other than restore). Now how do I get rid of it?
In Chest it’s safe to stay… it cannot get out of there…
There is no need to rush and deleting it from Chest.
By the way, which is the file name and path, I mean, the infected one you’ve sent to Chest?
Welcome to avast forums.
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
Have you been doing a scan with Panda’s on-line scanner ?
First time I’ve used Avast so I’m feeling my way through.
This is what Avast tells me -
C:\System Volume Information_restore{129201FA-BOAC-49B3-96B2-DEB8B91E727B}\RP293
What if I restore it to the Retore Point and then delete that? Or what is the proper method?
Don’t restore it, clean the infected restore point so it can subsequently infect your system should you use system restore in the future.
The c:\System Volume Information folder is a part of the system restore function and as such is protected by windows, the only really effective way to clean infected _restore points is to disable system restore and reboot. This will clear ALL _restore points. Once you have disabled system restore, reboot, scan your PC again and if clear enable system restore. This will create a new clean restore point.
