win32:delf-MZG

Couple of hours ago, I got an win32:delf-MZG warning using, Spybot, iobitsecurity360, ascpro and faststone capture when I tried to capture popup saying there is a trojan horse in those files. I did not know at time it was false positive.
I had to uninstall Avast, which I did.
then reinstall spybot, Iobit, ascpro and faststone.
Perhaps I should have come here first and seen there was a false positive Win32:delf-MZG.
Not good Avast.
Next time Avast tells me I have a trojan horse do I put it in chest, go to Avast to see if it is a false postive or what???
Can I guess it is safe to reinstall Avast???

Win32:Delf-MZG false positive was fixed in the latest VPS - 091203-1

This is what happens when Avast boast :-X

While dozens of machines, here in Buenos Aires, reported the same problem could not access other security applications such as Spybot, for example … Was it a programming error or was a specific external attack? Please fix it so fast!

Your first choice should always be send to chest. That way if it’s a false positive you can restore it later.

@ sergitox

update your avast definitions fast and restore files from your virus chest

The 091203-1 update fixes the problem of the false positives, So update your virus defs.

I reinstalled Avast home and it shows VPS update 091203-1

Perhaps next time I’ll check for Avast updates.

thanks

After this debacle have permanently lost 5 programs and had to reinstall many more… !!!
Restore from chest seems to be a pretty hit and miss process.
Many System Volume Info files…have restored and says it has been successful but still showing in the chest as infected. I assume this should not be.
If I change to another AV and uninstall avast …could this affect my operating system? XP3
Been with them for many years but confidence in the program has gone. >:(

Did you try using System restore?
Joe

@philsharp

If you un-install avast! make sure you save what is in the Chest so that you can restore it to its needed location.

It will not affect XP as non of the XP system files were detected.

If you have been here for many years why have you not updated you signature?

Go to PROFILE then Modify Profile then Forum Profile Information then Signature: and put information about your system if you like just like my sigature.

@ Joe
Tried System Restore…no go. But Thanks.

@Yo Kenny…you are not a Moderator yet!!!

Restoring a file doesn’t actually delete it from the Chest. It just extracts the file from the Chest to its original location. Make sure the files in Chest have been restored, Then you can delete them from the chest.

@marc57
Thanks yr advice. After my anger cooled a little I saw Vlk’s post and read about the “extract” option (never seen that referred to before) so 25 files later!!! Hopefully it worked.
Sadly, lost some of my old and non renewable software.
Apppreciate your constructive help after what has been a VERY trying day :o

I’m aiming for avast! Überevangelist like DavidR

What old and non renewable software did you loose?

Have you tried OldVersion?

@DavidR
I think it’s known as a comedy of errors!! Human at that.
Today I am trying to remember the 9 years of good service/protection.
