Win32:DNSChanger-VJ [Trj] Infection

During the last day I have tried to remove an infected file from my computer using both the Full Scan and the Boot Scan both have said the file has been deleted however when I run the scan again the infected file is still there. The threat is Win32:DNSChanger-VJ [Trj]. I have not noticed my computer acting up yet but I can’t turn on my Windows firewall. Please help.

Follow this guide and attach the logs
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

if logs are to big then upload to mediafire.com and post the download link here

Below are the links. The Malwarebytes program did not find the virus but Avast does find the virus during every scan.

Hi the links are coming up 404 could you attach the log here ?

The links appear to be OK, so I don’t know if this is similar to the issue you had before with mediafire.

OTL attached, other in next post.

Next two.

Thank you David, it is Mr Conserv again

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

You’re welcome.

I ran the ComboFix. It said it was going to restart my computer, that was more than 2 hours ago. It is a blankscreen with the mouse pointer and nothing has happen. Should I force a shut down? Thank goodness for smart phones.

Essexboy will be in bed right now, 3:10am in the UK, but I think he would say to reboot.

Check for the presence of a combofix log and report one the condition of your system.

I force a shutdown this morning, Attached is the log. On our computer we have 2 logins, everything in my login seems to be set for deletion and I can’t use any programs, my husbands login is fine. My login was the one used during the ComboFix, is this normal that everything is marked for deletion?

I’m not familiar with combofix, so that will need to be essexboy answer that later today. But I wouldn’t have though it normal, though I’m not sure what you mean by “everything in my login seems to be set for deletion and I can’t use any programs.”

What is deleting them or suggesting they be deleted ?
I take it that this “everything in my login seems to be set for deletion” wasn’t a symptom before ?

No matter what program I try to run I get the error that is is “Marked for Deletion” and that it can’t be run. I didn’t have this problem before I ran ComboFix so I am not sure if it is from that or from the virus.

Have you rebooted again (I know you have once), given that the combofix didn’t appear to conclude, perhaps rebooting again.

That message is something which I haven’t seen before so I googled it

I also see references to “The specified service has been marked for deletion” are you getting that also ?

I have not tried rebooting yet. I am not near my computer now so I will try it when I get home later.

I had the above trojan and malware-gen…removed by following the instructions of Combofix… thank you Essex Boy!!

Yes that is a problem that is sometimes exoperienced with combofix where it fails to release the registry properly, a rebbot cures it

The combofix looks good - could you confirm that the alerts have now ceased and the system is running normally

I rebooted and ran a scan using Avast. No infected files were found! THANK YOU for your help!!!

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [purity] [emptytemp] [EMPTYFLASH] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Remove ComboFix

[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall (Notice the space between the “x” and “/”) then click OK

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.
