I am a free user of avast and have been using it for over a year and it has been fantastic. Yesterday I got the first infection since using avast that has totally disabled avast and loaded my computer up with malware popups galore that prompt me to buy antivirus software.
I have logged on in safe mode and first run malwarebytes which listed several problems and reported their removal. On reboot the malware was still there and active.
I then ran spybot and it hung up a 10th of the way thru the scan identfying my antivirus had been disabled but due to lock up could not remove.
Anybody got any suggestions other than back up ten and punt. LOL Sorry gotta laugh or cry and laughing is better. I do appreciate any help at all.
Thanks
George

Did you try running Malwarebytes in normal mode ? this is when it works best
Yes I first did full scan several times with malwarebytes and it appeared to be working. Several infections were noted that were mentioned in a description of this malware that I read. But when I rebooted the malware was popping up as before the full scans. I also ran SpyBot which found and removed problems but after reboot the malware was still there.
A forum buddy mentioned that I needed to turn off my system restore before booting to safe mode then do full scan. I have just done that and started another malware scan. Takes about 45 minutes. Maybe this will work.
I will try those you mentioned next if this malwarebyte scan doesn’t fix it.
You are not going to believe this. We were back at it today trying everything we could find to try and lots of stuff suggested by friends but nothing was working. Then this evening as we were running another spybot scan our avast came to life and an avast popup reported a trojan as identified and isolated. We were in safe mode at the time and immediately rebooted to full mode and the malware was gone and everything seems back to normal. The wife has been using it a couple hours now and not signs of the infection at all.
I guess it took avast a wee bit to catch up with this trojan and today’s avast updated had the fix. It took control back from just as fast as the infection took control. THANKS AVAST!!
Thank you Pondus. We wee in the midst of downloading drweb and drweb boot cd when it came back. So I got a copy of the cd just in case LOL. We tried to also download the superantispyware but the malware interferred. I do appreciate your help. Thanks!
