Win32:Dropper-gen (Drp)

After a scan yesterday i was told i had the following threat

Win32:Dropper-gen (Drp)
Original File name Uninstall.exe
Original Folder C;\Program Files (x86)\Google\Picasa3
I then transferred it to the quarantine chest.

I have used Picasa for 2/3 years without any problem and constantly look for updates

Have run a full scan this morning with both Avast and Malwarebytes but neither can find any threat.(Do scans include files/folders in the quarantine chest?)

Is there an infection or is it a false positive.

Your help/advice would be appreciated.

You can report a possible FP here: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php

I’m just got the exact same alert this morning:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Picasa3\Uninstall.exe
High Threat Win32:Dropper-gen [Drp]

Is this a real threat?

(Do scans include files/folders in the quarantine chest?)
No....only avast have access to chest, so a file moved to chest will not be detected by Malwarebytes

you can report it to avast lab as Possible False positive from avast chest

how to use the chest. http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB21

then tomorrow, open chest, right click file and rescan, if not detected you can restore it
a copy will remain in chest, you can delete that when all is ok

I came into the office this morning to find the same “threat detection” I moved it to the chest, but I have a strong suspicion that Avast has mistakenly classified a perfectly good file as something that’s a threat. When I scanned the file after it was moved to the virus chest, Avast could find nothing wrong with it.

Avast also recently moved Microsoft Works to the virus chest. No virus found in this file when I scanned it after it was moved to the chest.

There seem to be more false positives happening with the Avast scans.

Have submitted to Avast as a possible false positive and have scanned the file in the virus chest and it shows it as ‘no virus’
