Good day :),thanks for a good free antivirus product which has looked after my pc for many years with only a few detections picked up i’m happy!.
Today i done a scan and avast picked up 2 detections can you advise, looking at the info in the avast chest where its quarantined it seems related to a2 anti-dialer program that i have installed-strange?
since this is in a system information folder it has at some point been moved or deleted from a system folder and system restore save a copy in case it was in error. So there is no real issue in removing it to the chest.
since this mentions a squared in the folder name have you got a squared anti-spyware installed or just this anti-dialler ?
If so it may be that something in there is matching a signature, in any case you should check further.
You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here. You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.
Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.
Thanks David for the quick reply back i will do as you suggested!.
I have now and have had previously a2 antidialer installed,i had to uninstall it once or twice as their was a bug in the update which caused problems in the toolbar flashing icon a2 and messed up the operation of the pc,this bug was fixed and all seeme since then.
I also had a2 squared anti malware installed but uninstalled it because it took so long to update,as i am on dial up in spain its not worth it,shame coz it was a very good anti malware program…I am however thinking of re-instatling it again as i am going onto monthly contract internet unlimited usage.
Seems strange though that i have had a2 anti-dialer intalled for a long time now without problems and VAST has never thrown up any detection of anything to do with a2?,only since avast update did it flag up a2 CY TROJAN/,could it be a false detection?.
Will let you know result of : VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner ,cheers.
Signatures continually get added to the virus signature file so what may not have been previously detected as malware are now, which is why it is important to confirm the detection.
