Win32:JunkPoly[Cryp]

Hi Guys, I recently downloaded a mod for a game, and it was corrupted with the Win32:JunkPoly[cryp] virus, anyway I’ve updated avast and run a boot scan, moving everything to the chest, but I have one massive problem with the virus.

it keeps stopping the logon user interface from working, and it takes a massive amount of time for me to actually get it to miss terminating one if that makes sense to you.

anyway I was wondering if I could plead for some help on here, this is a hijackthis log that I just made.

anyway, thanks in advance for any help at all, I’ll be checking back probably every 5 minutes.

-= Here are my findings on your HJT log…

b Firewall[/b]
You are using Windows XP Firewall… Xp Firewall does not provide outbound protection… You mat consider enhancing your protection by installing a firewall with outbound protection… Some freeware xp firewall alternatives are:

   PCTools, Agnitum Outpost, Online Armor

(2) Service Pack

You are using Windows XP Service Pack 2… A newer service pack [Service Pack 3] is available for download at Microsoft Update… You should consider downloading this to optimize PC performance & protection…

(3) Deactivated & Unnecessary Entries

You may fix this entries:

-= O2 - BHO: Rmn plugin - {47D92EB6-E52C-4cda-92A6-2369963F4913} - siemens32.dll (file missing)
-= O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)

b Suspicions[/b]
You just mentioned about a threat after downloading a mod for a game… I found one entry that can be related to a game… This ActiveX seems to have been installed… Please tell us if you are aware of installing an ActiveX related to Netgames.com

-= O16 - DPF: {99CAAA27-FA0C-4FA4-B88A-4AB1CC7A17FE} (MGLaunch_USAv1001 Class) - hXXp://ares.netgame.com/download/mglaunch_USAv1002.cab

b Antimalware[/b]
I suggest that you install Malwarebytes Antimalware… Update, Scan & tell us about the findings…

Windows Service Pack 3 has been available for a year plus provides several Critical Security updates and performance improvements so should be applied in IE by going to Tools then Windows Update then downloading and installing all updates.

You should go to Control Panel then Automatic Updates then select Automatic (recommended) or at least Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them.

You should install User Profile Hive Cleanup Service to help with slow log off and unreconciled profile problems:
http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?familyid=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en

You need Windows Defender as an additional Protection Layer:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx

Update Windows Defender daily through its portal:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal

You are running a vulnerable level of Sun Java so go to Add/Remove programs and un-install all Sun Java installs plus you are running MegaUploadToolbar that is spyware:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=43679

Install the latest Sun Java:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Run Secunia Online Software Inspector to see what other applications are vulnerable to infection:
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online

ok guys, I’ve done most of what you suggested, minus the updating to service pack 3, with my internet speed that’ll take over 5 hours, I will do it though, it will just be awhile, I installed another firewall/antivirus program, called pareto anti virus, it apparently can get rid of junk poly but im not sure about that, also i uninstalled java but havent installed the new version yet.

anyway that Ares netgame, was a game i had ages ago, but I’d uninstalled it so i “fixed” it in hijackthis…and as I wrote this line i got 5 instances of junk poly pop up, I moved them all to avasts chest.

ah I just realised why, I’m running that malwarebytes thing as I’m typing this, and thats what is prompting avast to find them, atleast i think so, but if it keeps going I’m not going to have a system file left…well, hopefully I will get through this damned thing, I do not know where my OS discs are but its looking more and more like i need to reformat.

Anyway here is the new hijack this log
