I’ve been involved in a copyright case online and we think the person responsible for the thefts is sending out viruses in revenge attacks.
I’m suddenly noticing a lot of Win32:Klez-H e-mails in my inbox which fortunately Avast is identifying. The last reference to Klez-H that I can find here is 2003 and I seem to recall reading somewhere that it’s an old virus. I remember when it first became active way back in 2002 because I was one of the people hit by it.
I’d like to confirm this and THANK YOU Alwil for keeping Avast’s virus definitions so well formed. Naturally I haven’t opened any of the e-mails, I am using the Thunderbird e-mail client and wondered if there’s a way of identifying e-mail headers without actually opening the e-mail?
One of my best purchases was MailWasher Pro (about US$29 around two years ago and free updates since then).
Before I download any email, I run MailWasher, not only does it cut down massively on my spam (nil in my inbox), you can also filter suspicious emails for deletion at source the email server.
avast can also scan the small part of the email that MailWasher displays in plain text (so you can preview and mark for deletion suspicious), I find this a low risk and have avast ignore mailwasher.exe to reduce the scanning overhead.
Thanks for the hints about Mailwasher DavidR. I’ve used it in the past but I have to say I didn’t really care for it.
I found I could get e-mail headers by making sure that the e-mail client was set to display them automatically then right clicking on the e-mail without opening it, and clicking on Print. Puter is fine and I’ve been able to check the IP information.
