Win32:Malware-gen and Win32:DNSChagner-VJ on Win 7 Home Premium x64

Hi all, my first time using the forums. Trying to clean off my g/f’s machine and can’t get these two items to clear or quit running. I have run Avast!, Kaspersky online, SAS, MBAm, Spybot S&D, amd DR.Web Cureit!. The only thing a that is even seeing them is Avast! and quarantining them, over and over and over again. Does anyone know of a program that will clear them or how I can get Avast! to get them taken care of.

Thanks!!

Can you schedule a boot time scanning with avast? Send infected files to Chest.

I’ve run boot-time several times wit the same result. It moves them to vault but can’t repair or delete them.

When I run Avast these are the two items that I get come up that are infected.

C:\Users\Heather\Documents\Downloads\OOo3.2.0winx86install-wJRE_en-US.excel|>$INSTDIR\oppenofficeorg1.cab|>sal3.dll Error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted.}

C:\windows\assembly\tmp\u\00000002.@|>[Embedded_r#00290] is infected by win32:malware-gen

No problems with this one. Just a non-standard package.

Seems a temporary file (?) that could be deleted.

  1. This first one isn’t something to be concerned with, it is just reporting a file that can’t be scanned and the reason why. If you have already installed OOo3.2.0winx86install-wJRE_en-US.excel in your downloads folder, then this file is a bit redundant anyway

  2. This second one is a more complex problem than just deleting a temporary file as it will just get replaced.

  • This needs further analysis by a malware removal specialist:
Go to this topic http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 for information on Logs to assist in cleaning malware. Use the information about getting and using the logs and start your own new topic and attach the logs there, not in the LOGS topic.

It is a possible zero access or conserv infection based on this but C:\windows\assembly\tmp\u\00000002 I will need to check first before I can decide the approach to take

Once you have run and attached the scans we will go from there

Thanks for the replies. I will not be able to run and get the logs till this evening. Which programs should I run and post logs from??

Thanks again for the replies!!

These ones initially

Download OTL to your Desktop

[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
[*]Select All Users
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
%SYSTEMDRIVE%*.exe
/md5start
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
/md5stop
C:\Windows\assembly\tmp\U /s
CREATERESTOREPOINT

[*]Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Attach both logs

THEN

Download aswMBR.exe ( 1.8mb ) to your desktop.
Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it Click the “Scan” button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

Thanks essexboy!! Running now, will post result shortly.

Ran both and here are my results…

Tried attaching all in one post, but didn’t all go through. My bad…

And the extras.txt

Unfortunately it is almost 1:30am in the UK so essexboy will be in bed. He should be back on-line this evening around 7pm UK local.

HAHAHAAA!! That’s ok, it’ll still be infected tomorrow. LOL Thanks for the heads up DavidR!!

No problem, unfortunately a game of time zone ping pong ensues. However now you have posted the logs it will give essexboy something to work with and post the fix, which you can pick up when you get on-line.

OK you have what could be the conserv.dll infection so I will need to go straight on to a stronger tool. Once combofix has completed the run could you do a further OTL scan so that I can clear any remnants

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Have run combofix and at the finish it has gotten to the reboot screen and has been sitting at the “please wait” screen for an hour. Should I do a manual restart??

Yes reboot and look for a log file - it will either open on reboot or be located at C:\combofix.txt

Got it finished and seems to be running ok. No Avast popups yet as I’m online with the machine and writing this. Here’s the log file and let me know if there is anything further I need to do.

Thanks for your help Essexboy!!

Yep 'twas the conserv, could you now run OTL so that I can see if there are any remnants
