and to make matters worse OTL has been running for 10 minutes and isn’t doing a very “Quick” Scan.

I also previously had avast run a pre-boot scan and it went through and quarantined a bunch of files.

do you have a log or screenshot of that so that Essexboy can see what was removed ?

perfect timing. The OTL scans finished as well. Attached a picture of the avast bootscanlog.

OTL Report.

combofix ran, but produced no log in C:\ or anywhere as far as I can tell. I’ve reenabled avast, to see if the warning keeps popping up that it’s caught the viruses.

is there something I should do with combo fix ?

Yes, could you delete combofix from your desktop and download a fresh copy please but when you save it to the desktop rename it to Gotcha

Then run as before

did that and still no file. Could it be because I have Windows 7 it goes to some other location ?

Could you re-run OTL please selecting all users… Also what is Avast reporting ?

ok. so far avast is not catching anything, and I haven’t had any popups. will post the OTL log shortly.

OTL. no extras log created.

That looks clean if you are still having no problems tomorrow let me know and I will remove my tools

awesome thank you ! I will let you know tomorrow.

all clear so far, thank you ! Is there anything else I need to do ?

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Select folder options (Appearance > Folder options in category view)
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
