Hi!
I’m trying to fix my father-in-laws machine, he’s running avast on winXP, and we’re running into this trojan.
We continually get the alert that the trojan is win32:pakes-atm in file windows/sytem32/CRTDLLo.dll …
Naturally, we cannot quarantine it, delete it, or otherwise extract it. If it were my machine, I would reformat and be done with it, but that’s not an option. I’ve been reading all the posts here at the forums that seemed similar, most recently this one:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=33784.0I’ve followed all the instructions therein, other than the restart in safe mode, because I haven’t the foggiest what to search for.
Using Tech’s posted steps:
1. Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3. 2. Clean your temporary files. 3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. 4. Use SUPERantispyware and/or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than. 5. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest Trend Micro RootkitBuster. 6. Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.I've gotten this far. Still no change.
I am including the hijack this log, in the hopes someone sees something (You will note I downloaded many of the programs recommended in the previous post):
