Yes please do
next glitch.
When I tried to install the program, I got an error message. Please see attached.
Is every situation so complicated, or are we unique?

I don’t know how to show you the image without uploading it somewhere - and the file is too large to attach. Basically, the error is saying
Runtime error (at -1:0):
Cannot import, and then the file name.
Crop the image so it only shows the relevant error information, rather than a full screen image, etc.
You could also try saving it as a .gif image as that file type is generally smaller without further processing.
Thank you David - I don’t know why I had a hard time with that. (I just copied it into paint, and saved as a GIF)
Okay - here is the file - Ta Da!!!
You’re welcome, hopefully essexboy can make some sense of it.
Are you downloading MBAM to your desktop and running from there, or are you running it from the download prompt ?
I downloaded it to my flash drive, then copied the file to my C: drive. Tried to install it from there. I don’t have internet access at home, so that is the only way I can get the download onto my computer.
Can you try to run it from your flash drive rather than copy to the affected system
I will try that. I’ll keep you posted.
Okay - I ran the quick scan from my flash drive, and it worked - it found one infected file.
However, i then ran the MBAM on full scan, to include my flash drives. After hours of scanning, it had 188 files on it. I had them all checked, and clicked remove (I don’t know if that deletes the file, or removes the bug from it). It then asked me to reboot, which I did.
The computer would not restart - it gave me a start error, and I tried to run it in safe mode, but that won’t work either. What is going on? I took an actual photograph of the screen, and will try to attach that, so you can see the message I’m getting.
I obviously cannot get the logs for you to see.
I’m really nervous for what this means for all the info on my computer. What’s your experience been in the past with this kind of problem?
Looks like MBAM only did half the job - removed the files but not the registry entry
Quick fix first, reboot the computer and keep pressing F8, when the boot menu appears select Last Known Good
If that fails then …
OK this file is big about 276.7Mb, print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

Two programmes to download
First
ISOBurner this will allow you to burn OTLPE.iso to a CD and make it bootable. Just install the programme, from there on in it is fairly automatic. Instructions
Second
[*]Download OTLPE.iso and burn to a CD using ISO Burner. NOTE: This file is 276.7Mb in size so it may take some time to download.
[*]When downloaded double click and this will then open ISOBurner to burn the file to CD
[*]Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
[*]As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
[*]Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
[*]Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
[*]Select the Windows folder of the infected drive if it asks for a location
[*]When asked “Do you wish to load the remote registry”, select Yes
[*]When asked “Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning”, select Yes
[*]Ensure the box “Automatically Load All Remaining Users” is checked and press OK
[*]OTL should now start.
[*]Drag and drop this attached scan.txt into the Custom scans and fixes box
[*]Press Run Scan to start the scan.
[*]When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
[*]Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system.
[*]Right click the file and select send to : select the USB drive.
[*]Confirm that it has copied to the USB drive by selecting it
[*]You can backup any files that you wish from this OS
[*]Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply.
Looks like the instructions for booting from a cd drive are not avaiable. Can you send me a new link, please?
My apologies I made an error in the link translation - try it now, I have corrected it
I apologize for my lack of updates. I did as you specified, and did get the computer up and running in reatogo. I just wasn’t sure what my next step was going to be, if my windows no longer worked…
In a desperate attempt to get my computer back up, due to time constraints. I gave it into an IT guy that lives locally. He says he sees a few minor problems, but nothing so tremendous (I suppose that’s because you assisted us in removing them… - Thanx!)
Now what’s supposed to happen? He says it looks like Windows is gone. Did that happen from the virus, or did that come about from one of the programs I ran?
Also, I was afraid to save any of the files as they were on reatogo, as they were all in strange file formats, and I didn’t know if they would be accessible if I put them onto a Windows computer.
Also, I still don’t know if my files that were damaged by the malware are gone for good, or ruined. Is it possible to extracate the malware off a file but still save the file?
Thank you for your expertise…
It may be just that MBAM removed a bad file but failed to remove the boot registry key - hence it will not boot ( I have had that happen once before - I removed the service and key with OTL and the system rebooted nicely)
If you could run OTL from the reatogo desktop we may be able to fix it
