I’m not sure if I use Microsoft security essentials? I am still in safe mode, should I be? I’m a little embarrassed, I’ve never had to do a command before…it’s telling me the service name is invalid. Am I putting it in incorrectly? Thank you so, so very much for your help
Aye safe or normal makes no difference… OK as it stands we really need to get FRST on this system so that I can stop the malware running. The problem is that the services and files are hidden from the user.
Could you run an Avast boot scan please allow it to quarantine anything related to google or Defender/Essentials
Is there any chance you could get FRST downloaded to a USB stick at all
The only other access to a computer I have is a public one…I have just recently relocated 7 hours from home and don’t know anyone. Do you specifically know if I could download the FRST onto USB from a public computer? (library). I will do the avast boot scan now.
Yes there should be no problem with that, but download both 32 and 64 bit versions unless you know exactly what your one is
Ok, boot scan is running…will be a few hours before I have the FRST downloaded to USB.
No problem it is 4:30 pm here and I am usually around until 22:30 ish
Boot scan is done and I told it to move the files to the chest. I have the FRST on the jump drive…any special steps I should take next?
Nope you can run it direct from the jump drive and that is where the log will be saved if you can either attach or copy and paste the log
Is this what you need?
OK lets kill this blighter… As you cannot download anything yet
Open notepad and copy all the data inside the codebox to the notepad file.
Save this notepad as fixlist to the USB drive where FRST is

Run FRST and press Fix
Once it has run there will be a fix log saved on the USB could you post that

I disabled avast but combofix says it’s still running? Should I click ok to go on…or?
Yep ok the combofix warning, Avast knows of the programme and should leave it alone ![]()
Thanks! Here you go…
How is the computer behaving now ?
One final run just to clear the last of the old adware, this should take no more than 2 or 3 minutes
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

[]please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system’s specifications

[]post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
It seems ok…a little slow when opening browser for some reason and it wasn’t before. But no crazy pop ups and no alerts from avast!! Yay! Attached is the log
OK lets clear my rubbish away now, when this is done a disc defragment will probably be in order as we have shifted a fair few files around
Subject to no further problems ![]()
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

: Keep Java Updated :
WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
