Hi Rin2007,

How’s the computer? Interesting to note that Security Center reports Mcafee antivirus is running on your computer. Did you use Mcafee before?

.
I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager – the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is often installed without user’s approval but doesn’t spy or do anything “bad”. This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware

Since you use Aol products, uninstalling ViewPoint would be futile as it will just reinstall itself. I do however, suggest you disable the updating feature as outlined above.

You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so there are no conflicts and it will speed up scan time.
Please don’t go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once the scan is finished remember to re-enable your antivirus along with your antispyware programs.

.
Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

[*]Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
[*]It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions.
[*]You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
[*]When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
[*]Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button

[*]Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
[*]Archives
[*]Mail databases

[*]Click on My Computerr under Scan.
[*]Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
[*]You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As
[*]Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt)

[*]info regarding McAfee

Let me know of any problems.

Thanks

Okies…the McAfee isn’t even on my computer any longer. I’m not sure why the security center shows it being on my computer, but it’s not. I couldn’t get it to turn that off.

And before I started the last step you mentioned, my computer was working a LOT better. It turned on quicker now too. But when I was running the online scan, my computer wigged out and there was a fatal error and the screen was blue. When I restarted, Avast went baserk, with a bunch of different Trojen viruses, most of them starting with Vu. I had to do a boot scan and when I finally got back on, my desktop had changed and I couldn’t access my Taskmanager. Ran a malware scan and that got rid of it. Right now it’s running about the same before I did the last step you had mentioned. Not too sure what happened there. Want me to post a log?

Yes please do. Run combofix as it will be the best log to see what’s going on.

First though, please delete the copy you have from your desktop and download a fresh one. Please post a new HJT log as well.

Thanks
