Win32:Trojan Gen (other) encountered

Hi,

I encountered a problem with Avast when trying to remove a virus. When thoroughly scanning the system I got a virus called Win32:Trojan-gen (other). I tried repairing it but that failed, I tried renaming/moving it and that also failed, then finally tried deleting it. I even ticked if necessary delete at next restart. All I kept getting was a message saying “this function isn’t supported on this system”. I have Windows XP Home SP1 and Avast Home Edition build June 04 4.1.418. Please can you help. The File was found in Win Rar, but i see by other peoples post this is something due to the VPS update being infected. The virus has never been caught in my PC before until now, and its still detecting it.

Thanks.

You are missing an update. Please update and then recheck that .rar file again.

Thanks for the reply but the latest VPS file i have is 0432-1, 3/08/04. I have checked but there is no update?

Hi gooders5,
Your right, that’s the latest version. There was a prob. earlyer with false positives in rar files but that has been corrected as far as I know.
I’m sure some one from Alwil will answer you shortly.
Welcome to the forum.

This is not true.

Probably a false alarm (false positive).
Did you try another on-line scanning? See http://www.security-ops.tk/
Can you send the ‘infected’ file for analysis? (virus at avast.com)
