Hi
I’m having problems removing the “win32: Trojan-gen {Other}” from my son’s laptop. It appears to be interfering with the .exe file of the “Breath of Fire 4” (BOF4) game which he installed recently. The game is an original copy and is a couple of years old, and he hasn’t had any problems with the game in the past when installed on other computers.
I have followed advice given by Trends to posts with a similar problem, i.e., disabling system restore, cleaning temp files, scheduling a boot time scan, etc. But I’m not sure if the virus has been completely cleared. Here’s a copy of the HijackThis Report.

To know if a file is a false positive, please submit it to VirusTotal and let us know the result. If it is indeed a false positive, send it in a password protected zip to virus@avast.com . VirusTotal has a file size limit of 10Mb. Please, mention in the body of the message why you think it is a false positive and the password used. Thanks.
Maybe you need to disable Hide protected operating system files and enable View hidden files and folders to manage the file(s).
As a workaround, you can add these files to the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning) exclusion list.
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize. Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
You can use wildcards like * and ?. But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
Hi yarm,
First disable Spybot’s Teatimer or it won’t allow you to make the following changes:
http://www.malwarehelp.org/how-to-enabledisable-spybot-teatimer.html
Then run HijackThis! again, tick the following entries, close all other windows including this one and click ‘fix’. Then reboot.

Run a check with SUPERAntiSpyware Free .
Finally, post a fresh log just to check the infection has gone.

Thanks Guys
I’ve fixed the files on HijackThis and SUPERAntiSpyware scan was clean, here’s the new log. However I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the game and still get the Virus Warning:
File Name : C:\DOCUME~1\Niall\LOCALS~1\Temp\SintfNT.dll
Malaware name: Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}
Malaware: Virus/Worm
VPS Version 08725-0, 25/7/2008. This has been moved to the chest, but the message re-appears everytime the game is started. What should I do next?
I’ve also sent 2 files to be check by Virus Total and here are the results:

You can also fix this as it belongs to AVG which I see you don’t have any more:
O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll (file missing)
Your Sun Java application is out of date. Scan for out-of-date and insecure software using Secunia Software Inspector and update any vulnerable software: this will help to prevent future infections.
The game detection I guess is a false positive. Submit it to avast! and add the file to the list of exclusions as described here:
