If could be a false positive. Can you say what is the infected file name, where was it found (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx)? Can you check it with www.virustotal.com? Is it really infected?
What avast! version and virus database are you using? (see About dialog of avast!)
If it is a real infection, I suggest:
Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
Clean your temporary files.
Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
Wow seems like there is alot of things to do & i’m afraid i am not very computer savvy!
Here are a list of the files which according to (Avast) are infected, i hope you can tell me, if this is a false positive, or a genuine virus!
Below is a list of the infected files, there are too many for me to list, but i’m sure u will get the idea
from the few i have listed!
Also i am using (Avast Home Edition 4.8)
Whilst i am here, i hope you can answer a few questions for me!
How likley is this to be a false positive?
considering that i have deep scanned my computer with (SuperAntiVirus) (Trend Micro Scanner) (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool) also (Avast Anti Virus) None of these programmes have picked up on a virus Yet!
If this is a false positive, then why does Avast warn me of a virus again & again, why so many times?
If this was a genuine virus & i have had to send upto 15 “files” to the chest, then i would consider this to be quite a substantial infection, then why does my computer seem to be working just fine? Apart from the occasional Avast warning, everything else seems cool.
I hope you can help me answer, some of these question & maybe help me find a solution to this problem, i hate the idea of doing a complete format right now…lol
No i have not tried this scanner, it’s not compatible with “Opera Browser” i think, i have tried 3 other scans, SuperAntiVirus, Microtrend, Windows Removal Tool, but they have not found any infection.
Do you have a program called “SuperAntiVirus” on your computer ? IF yes,
should attempt to COMPLETELY REMOVE it from your computer . Info from
the Internet implies this MAY be a “Crack” or “Keygen” program, which usually
includes unwanted Trojans. IF it is a “genuine” antiVIRUS program, it would
“conflict” with Avast, a very undesirable condition .
