win32: Trojano-2956 [Trj] - can't delete or move to chest

Avast! found the virus referenced above during the memory check. When I try to move it to the chest, I get an error message stating: “the virus chest server is not running. RPC communication failed”. When I try to delete it, the computer acts as if the virus has been deleted. However, it appears at the next scan. Can you provide any assistance. I have limited computer knowledge so please try to keep the information as basic as you can. Thank you very much!

What was the virus name, what was the filename, where was it found
example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
What is your OS?
If XP you can try scheduling a boot-time scan from within avast.
right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, Menu, Schedule Boot-Time Scan…

Thanks for the reply.

Operating system: XP

Malware name: Win32: Trojano-2956 [Trj]
Malware type: Trojan horse
Found in: C:\windows\system32\child.dll
This is all the info. displayed upon detection.

I tried to run a boot-time scan twice, but the avast screen will not allow me to choose any numbers, (for instance: 1 to delete, etc.). It’s like the screen is frozen and I have to power off the computer. Any ideas? Thank you.

I assume you have a USB keyboard?
If so it is not avast stopping you entering numbers but your BIOS not having USB devices enabled on boot. You will need to adjust your BIOS settings so the keyboard is recognised or plug in a PS2 keyboard as a temporary measure.

You could also try this software Ewido Security Suite If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
