Yes, both of them can, I’ve actually done it through USB before, though I was installing Linux Mint back then. I’ll try what you’ve just posted… I also tried using Novicorp WinToFlash beta, but when the dust from the guns cleared, all I got was a bunch of errors on both PCs that I tried it on… Doesn’t work… Be right back… =)

I got all the way to Step 5 of the last part of the process. BartPE stopped me with this error:

"Error: The path “D:\winxp\xpsp3.iso” does not contain PartPE (or any other PE) files!
Press any key to continue . . . "

I tried the whole process over again, but to no avail. =)

Ok I need to research around that area

Ok, just tried to use my intermittent external CD-ROM to install the OS, but it failed again, which leaves me no choice left but to bring it up to town tomorrow, pay a small fee for the reformat, and have it back up on my lap tomorrow afternoon. Thanks a lot ‘essexboy’, I really have appreciated all you’ve done. Thanks again, goodbye… Eph. 4:15

No problem, the research led me down some interesting side paths ;D

I got my lappy back yesterday… Installed a few programs that evening - everything was fine. Today after reboot I tried to open the main page for Avia Antivirus - which I had installed - but found an error saying that the executable file had been corrupted or tampered with; I didn’t think much of it, but I uninstalled the program, and installed Avast! Free Antivirus, and ran a full system scan… Found approximately 800 files that were infected by the Vitro virus again… This is getting a bit frustrating… Why didn’t I ever hear that it could come back??! Help!=) +)

BTW, I have checked, and all files infected were .exe files - which means that this is the real thing…

What did they do with the laptop ? As the only way to clear this is to wipe the drive and start from scratch

Did you install from a USB or download the programmes ?

All I had them do as to FFR the thing using an external CD-ROM. I installed programs through USB.

Your USB is probably infected then I am afraid

Nope… Just checked that twice. I did finally manage to borrow an external CD-ROM from one of my friends, reinstalled Windows XP, brought the programs back on, and then did a full scan from Avast!.. No infected files found!! I am going to do this process regularly from now on, though. Thanks again! Azure the DeerHunter<^>
