Gang, Avast found this bugger on a scan, and recommended I put it in the virus chest, which I did. When I open the vault to see it, there’s nothing there. There are, however three files in the System Files section. How do I know I got rid of this thing? There’s suprisingly little information on this Trojan both on the Avast site and on the internet in general. Anyone have more info? Thanks.

Virus names aren’t standardised so the name given by avast might differ from other AVs, the file name (try googling the file name) and location are more useful to us (and you), example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
What is your OS ?
What is in the avast Log Viewer under the Warning section ?
The avast chest is in several sections the System Files section contains back-up copies of essential system files just in case they were to become infected.
Files sent to the chest by avast during scans, etc. should be in the Infected Files section.
Thanks for your reply, David. I did as you suggested and checked the “Warning” section and there it was. It gave the file path leading to one of my ripped albums. I scanned the album and avast found nothing, so I guess the trojan is gone or it was a false positive. Before I posted here, I did Google the trojan and found maybe three results, most of which were in a foreign language. There is nothing in the infected file section. I’ve run several full scans, including archives, since, with no problems. My OS is XP Home SP2. Thanks David for your help. I guess we can mark this as resolved.

Doing a search on just the virus name might not return much information as there is no standardised naming convention, so what it is called by avast may differ from other AVs. So searching for the infected file name often returns more information.
Yes, it is probably resolved, for the future a multi level approach to protection is good, provided that it isn’t two resident anti-virus programs as they can cause conflict.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it.
- Ad-Aware
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
- Ewido Security Suite This is a good addition to avast (they are ok together) as it specialises in trojan detection and removal.
A belated welcome to the forums.
