Win32:Zbot-MKK

So since I got the vps update, I seen the Win32:Delf-MZG false positive mostly but I’ve also seen Win32:Zbot-MKK. Is this also a false positive?

I think it is a false alarm as one of my trusted programs (Total Video Converter) got infected by the Win32:Zbot-MKK (Avast claims), so It may be false, but not entirely sure.

Hello,
false positive was fixed in new VPS update (091203-1).
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hello,

I’ve already updated to the VPS - 091203-1, but when I reboot my computer I still get the virus alert. It keeps poping up. It’s really annoying. And on that alert it says I have the 091203-0 version. I simply don’t know what else to do.

I’d appreciate it if anybody could help me.

Thanks.

I had such problem too. It can be solved very easy by reinstall avast. I think almost all users, who did update 091203-0 need to reinstall Avast

vhunter,
reinstall not required; updating the VPS is adequate.
There are times when a re-install (or rather, the removal part of a re-install) would be counter productive, as it is possible to delete the chest contents, which, in this case are required in order to restore files.

i think its after updating to the latest version. 091203-1

I did update to the latest version, but it didn’t solve the problem. I guess I’ll try reinstalling avast!.

Thanks.

new update 091203-1 works fine, if you didn’t updated 091203-0 before.
Yes, it’s not good to reinstall antivirus, but i did’t find other way to solve this problem.
I hope, users restore false warnings files from chest, before begin to uninstall

before that make sure you have restored all the files which were detected (false positives)

Thank you all for your help. I did as you recommended, restored the files and reinstalled avast!. Now everything seems to be back to normal.

thanks for the feedback and glad it helped

I got hammered by what I thought were virus two days ago. My virus checker exploded with over 150 instances of Win32Zbot-mkk and Win32Delf-mzg trojans. I deleted the progams. Most were little freebe programs I downloaded to see if they were any good. Some were important. It turns out they were false positives. A bad virus definition download from AVAST anti-virus. Great. Thanks. Spent about 8 hours for nothing

Sorry this happened.
Avast is just another program. It is up to the user to actually use it correctly, and, as has been said on this forum time and again: Don’t delete reported malware. Always quarantine.
This is true for any anti malware scanner. They all have FP’s from time to time.
When they have FP’s, it’s usually just one or two. This event consisted of thousands, which provided a clue to a lot of users that something was wrong with the scanner, not the file flagged as malware.
