Update: I hope I didn’t hurt anything, but since all the related threads suggest running ComboFix, I did.
The constant trojan notifications have stopped, and a MalwareBytes quick scan comes back clean.
But the full scan still reads Trojan Dropper BC Miner.
Avast full scan continues to find
C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini Threat Win32:Sirefef-PL[Rtk] and
C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini Threat Win32:Sirefef-PL[Rtk]
Error: Access is denied (5)

Hello again,
My computer seems to be working fine. No more notifications or threats detected.
The right-most portion of the desktop is now unusable, all graphics size themselves so the last inch or so is not in use, just a vertical black bar.
Also: suddenly Firefox windows size themselves to be larger than the screen. I’m not sure it is a related issue.
Thank you very much for your time.
Could you check that your screen resolution is set correctly
Subject to no further problems
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

Resolution does not affect the monitor issue; I have tried all the resolutions available, and it’s currently set to the recommended settings. The black bar persists in all configurations.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the display driver to no effect.
I wonder if it is a monitor problem
