Win8, must turn off Web Shield to access any website

Typical of Avast updates, so many that moderators have removed my reports:
After update to 17.5.2302 with defs 170712-0, I can no longer access any website unless I turn off Web Shield. I’ve checked every setting under Web Shield but nothing specific affects this.
Turn off Web Shield and it all works - of course I have no browser protection, the prime reason for having this software installed.

Avast, how about publishing “Avast Lite” that doesn’t include all the new and unrelated stuff that seems to break this fine software every few weeks to months?
