WIN98se: "Invalid System Disk" on Reboot

I downloaded Avast! 4 Home for my sisters computer that has win 98se on it and set up the AntiVirus protection to “schedule a boot-time scan” so when I rebooted it I got a black screen with the words: “Invalid System Disk”.

So I changed the boot settings in BIOS to boot 1. cd 2. hd 3. floppy and rebooted. Same “Invalid System Disk”

So I made a boot cd (my computer doesn’t have a floppy drive) for WIN98se put in in her computers cd drive and the screen went away but its just black and has a flashing “_” on the top left corner of the screen and nothing happens when I press the keyboard. I made a boot cd for WIN98 and got the same problem. :o

[shadow=red,left]WHAT DO I DO??? ??? ???[/shadow] HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!

The boot-time scan is not supported on Win9x platform - such an option is simply not there… ???

Her computer started fine before I installed the antivirus software and now it won’t start.

So even booting from a bootable cd fails, right?
Than it has nothing to with Avast, but more likely the hardware.

  • Open the system
  • unplug all cables
  • take out the ram
  • put back in the ram
  • hookup the cables
  • try to boot (make sure the drive is rcognized correctly in the bios)

And while you have the system open, perhaps do some dust cleaning also.

ill try it eddy and I LOVE THESE QUICK RESPONSES. THANKS.
