Bob pointed out this…
Microsoft has a well-hidden troubleshooter package, KB3073930,
which allows you to hide or block Windows Updates and, crucially, driver updates.
See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Adguard works flawlessly on Win10 IE and Edge, Microsoft are also further developing the Edge browser so it will accept extensions, it’ll be using API’s similar to Chrome.
It may be downloading. It’s up to you as to whether or not to install Win10.
I took me 6 hours and several attempts before I could get Win10 up and running.
I’ve now done this update procedure on 12 different computer of all ages and variations.
The best advice I can offer is to be very patient after the first time the system boots into Windows 10.
There’s a lot going on in the background and if you aren’t patient, nothing responds as it should.
Next run the SDK speedup and you’ll wind up with a well oiled computer.
That’s great information, thanks Essexboy that was my next question.
I have in the past used Puran on other OS’s and it always seemed to me that Windows Defrag put things in one place and Puran would put them somewhere else with no significant speed up other then on Windows XP
In W10 I’ll stay with Windows Defrag, just saying
Thanks! Mine went from 7 minutes down to less than 1 minute. 8)
Has anyone else have problems with third party firewalls? ???
Win10 won’t let me install Private Firewall. And I’m getting ticked off. >:(
Is there not a ‘Private Firewall’ forum? They might know
I’ll send them an email. I have found email is the best way to contact them.
Avast’s firewall installs and it’s technically a third party firewall.
Don’t know if what you use is compatible ?
I’m quite happy with the firewall that comes with Windows.
Okay, I installed Classic Shell and I now have a Win7 style “start button”.
The problem is I still can’t get rid of the search box in the lower left corner. Any ideas? ???
Well I’ve found it very useful and not a bit of a bother
Right click and find cortana context menu, u can change it to a icon or off I think…
I like the HIPS in PFW. It’s stronger than Windows Firewall and I’m not to the point of trusting the HIPS in avast free.
I need more information before I activate the HIPS in avast free. To me it seems like another attempt at the old behavior shield.
Found it.
Right click in the “search box”>highlight “search”>click “hide”. Click “show search box” to undo.
Or click “show search icon” to show icon next to start button.
After all this time and all of the beta testing I have done, you would think I would know how to “explore” new things. :-[
IMHO, I have come to the conclusion Win10 is way better than Win8.1. All you have to do is get it set up the way you want it.
Window 10 is way better in my opinion as well… I’m going to upgrade back to it… I miss the edge browser. I just need to buy a laptop coolant fan pad to help prevent overheating.
I’ve found that to be true for any software installed
Maybe you need to open it up and blow out the built up garbage ???
Simply elevate the back end of laptop to make airflow easier.
I’ve been told that Avast is working on the problem but at the moment there is no ETA for the fix.

That doesn’t matter. It works perfectly on Win 10. No program has to say Windows 10, or any other version, for it to work just fine.
