Since getting Avast Internet Security I have not been able to receive any mail via the built-in Mail app that comes with Windows. I am currently using Windows 10, but I used 8.1 previously and this issue did not occur… This is why I assume it’s related to my Avast! subscription upgrade.
Anyway, I have looked here but I don’t think it’s relevant to the Mail app as there is no real way to change anything except turn SSL on/off.
I’ve also seen this and it did actually work, but I restored it to it’s defaults again because I was concerned that it was leaving me unprotected.
So, what do I need to change to get Avast to message in? (they send out just fine).
Things I’ve tried already:
Clearing all the ports in the Troubleshooting area (as mentioned above)
Turning SSL on/off in Mail.
Turning off SSL scanning within Avast!
If you did an upgrade, you should still have access to Windows Live Mail which was used in Windows 8.1
The mail app in windows 10 is very limited in it’s features. If you can’t find Windows live mail, you can install it from here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials
Just choose the programs you want when you do the install. (I just used this to get Windows Live Writer onto my Windows 10 system)
Or another option is to remove the Avast Mail Shield so you can continue using the Win 10 Mail App as I have done, all apps run in there own secure environment so are much more secure than normal installed programs.
and just to add, your Gmail account is already protected at Gmail server … they use Postini spam/virus filter with two AV engines from Authentium and McAfee
I have actually shopped around and looked at several apps, but I really like this one, it’s not really that limited at all for what I want it for. It allows me to manage all of my different emails with different email providers in one place along with their subsequent calendar accounts.
Yeah, I think you’re right. This is what I was planning on doing if there wasn’t a viable solution.
