Twice already my computer crashed and when I restarted it is showed the following message "Start Menu and Cortana aren’t working … ". The first time this happened, I checked on google and they said it was Avast. I uninstalled it and restarted my computer and it worked normal again. I re installed Avast and all went well till today (3 weeks) the same thing happened. I did the same thing and the computer is working again. I have avast Premium and VPN and have beed a client with avast since the very start. I sent them an inquiry from my mobile phone since my computer was not working and they never answered.
I hope they would answer here or I will but another antivirus although I was happy with their work
Please if you want to send me in the wrong direction then just stop it. It has nothing to do with Windows crashing. It is realted to Avast, now either someone can give me a solution or do not waste my time
This is NOT an Avast problem. It happens on computers that have never seen Avast on their systems.
It is a problem that Microsoft needs to solve. http://techdows.com/2015/08/microsoft-yet-to-fix-windows-10s-start-menu-and-cortana-arent-working-critical-error.html
Or, you need to update your Windows 10 installation.
Or, simply boot Windows 10 into Safe Mode. Then reboot into regular mode. Booting into Safe Mode and then restarting your system for now is a way to get past this problem until Microsoft fixes the problem.
If you need help with booting Windows 10 into safe mode, take a look at the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb5n6kTqQ1A
Thank you, I did read that as well and did go into safe mode but still the problem was not solved until I removed Avast-
My Windows 10 is up to date on every aspect, Avast was up to date as well until I removed it.
Since you have no solution and I see that Avast does not really want to go into this discussion, I will try another antivirus and see if this happens, then you will be right which I doubt. I really love avast and it is a pity to change to another antivirus
No idea really, my son has Windows 10 and does not have this problem. I followed most of the things mentioned on other places and the only one that worked for me was removing avast totally. I kept the Avast VPN and it is functioning 100%
