Hi,
I’m running a fresh install of the Windows 7 RTM x64, and avast! just refuses to run anymore. It definitely worked for a little while at first (maybe until I rebooted again after the initial install?), but now the system tray icon shows a red crossed circle, and when I click the icon I get a message that says:
avast!: AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.
The operation could not be completed.
I’ve searched the forum posts, looking for advice, and I’ve tried all posted solutions. I’ve repaired, rebooted, uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted several times over to no avail. I tried the avast! cleaning utility from safe mode before reinstalling, but it didn’t help.
My avast! services are in the following states:
avast! Antivirus: automatic, stopped, won’t start – “The dependency service or group failed to start”
avast! iAVS4 Control Service: automatic, started
avast! Mail Scanner: manual, stopped
avast! Web Scanner: manual, stopped
I have these clues in my Event Log:
Event ID 7030 – “The avast! Antivirus service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.”
I also see the same 7030 error for “iAVS4 Control Service”, “avast! Web Scanner”, and “avast! Mail Scanner”.
Event ID 7000 – “The aswMonFlt service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.”
Event ID 7001 – “The avast! Antivirus service depends on the aswMonFlt service which failed to start because of the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.”
This is the state that avast! is in after a complete uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot. Everything seems to be dependent on “aswMonFlt” and that’s failing to start. I’m hoping you can offer me some advice on fixing this.
Thanks,
Dave
