Windows 7 Application log warning from Avast One

This morning when I booted up my Windows 7 laptop I noticed the following error message listed 18 times in the Application log. I ran a Repair on the installation and no errors were reported. I was still able to do a scan but I’m wondering how to fix this so this warning doesn’t keep happening.

edit: I want to point out that yesterday I updated Chrome to the latest version: Version 102.0.5005.115 (Official Build) (64-bit). I don’t know if that’s relevant but I have never seen this problem before today.

Hi, according to the path, it seems to be related to an ASB extension.

Avast Secure Browser version: Version 102.0.16882.63 (Official Build) (64-bit)

After further investigation, I found the following file:
C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Local\AVAST Software\Browser\User Data\Default\Extensions\nmebbcjdbhgggcgohlnlgadkmjiedfbc\1.2.341_0\manifest.json.

More investigation reveals that the Avast Browser has similar problems:

  1. Launch the Avast Browser
  2. Look in the Windows 7 Application log and note the browser warnings.
  3. Go to Settings>About Avast Secure Browser>Diagnostic Information
  4. Note the extensions shown are for the Browser.
  5. Go to Settings>Extensions>Select Developer tools. This will display the extensions for the browser. They are all Avast extensions it appears.

This may be related to what’s going on when I start up Windows 7 and Avast One runs.

How do I report this problem to technical support? It’s still happening to me on an almost daily basis. It didn’t happen yesterday but today it did.

Wait for one of the devs and/or submit a ticket: https://support.avast.com/contact (paid versions)

Hello,
we’re looking into the problem, hopefully we’ll get back soon with fix and more information to share.

Thank you for reporting!

Hi again,

we opened a bug at our side and hopefully we’ll solve this soon. We’ll let you know more once it’s solved (internal reference ASB-13201).

Sorry for the inconveniences caused.

I’m still having this issue. Can I please get a status report on this? Is it going to be fixed?

This problem was reported back in June and it is now almost September and yet still no resolution. I sure would appreciate it if I could get a status report on this bug. As of two days ago another problem has showed up. Now the Avast browser is automatically starting at Windows startup even though I have the setting turned off for that.

On the browser startup, is this turned off in the browser settings?

As I stated in my post, I have already made sure that setting was turned off and yet it still runs at startup. That was the first thing I checked. I use Chrome most of the time and that it works as it should. For two days in a row this has been going on. I guess I’m going to have to uninstall Avast Secure Browser.

Hello everyone,
issue regarding error message in Windows event viewer will be solved with following browser version 105 in a week. Sorry for delays and inconveniences caused.
