Windows 7 / Avast 4 or 5 / WebShield causing slow network connection

Upgraded to Win7 recently (and Avast5) and now my internet/intranet connections are seriously slow. Used to get over 20,000kbs on Speakeasy. Now I rarely get 6000kbs.

I rebooted in Safe Mode and connection went back to super speedy!

Rebooted normal and disabled all seven Avast shields and connection is back to super speedy. Re-enabled each one until finding that “Web Shield” is causing my network to go from 20,000kbs to 6,000kbs.

Obviously this is unacceptable. Is there something that can be done in Expert Settings to alleviate this?

I can leave Web Shield running but uncheck “Scan Web (HTTP) Traffic” and speed is through the roof!

By the way…I also had Malwarebytes running. If you have “IP Protection” turned on the same problems occur. Seems that Avast Web Shield and MBAM IP Protection are doing the same thing, and if you have them both running then you’re in serious trouble. With bothi running my speed is decreased from 20,000kbs down to 4,000kbs.

Seems both programs are too aggressive.
