I installed the trial version yesterday on Windows 7 and I am having problems I never had before:
Frequent Programs not responding, freezing, hanging, disconnection from network and the Linksys network adapetr driver automatically bumped off( uninstalled) etc
I have been backing up Drive images with the Paragon software with no problem for two years.
It used to take 30 minutes to back up a drive image to my external USB drive . Now, after Avast ( coincidence or not? You’ll tell me!) the transfer rate has trickled down to practically 0 : 560 Mb in 46 minutes! At this rate, the whole operation will take 16 hours to transfer the 16 Gb drive . On top of this, Paragon at some point stops transferring data altogether.
I wouldn’t want to uninstall and I have disabled the program, instead, but the problems persist.
On top of this, even with the program disabled, the processes still run in the background and I can’t stop them with Task Manager, which is a nuisance.
I have read other similar reports about Avast messing up with the system, so, if I have to, I’ll have no choice but uninstalling the program and possibly forego the purchase. By the way, I have run a complete virus scan and the system is clean.
What av were you using prior to avast and how did you remove ? any other security software on the system ? what version of avast are you trialing - pro/ais 6.0.1203
thank you for your reply. I have Windows Defender as a default A.V. with Win 7, but I tried quite a few other A.V. like Eset 32, Norton, Malwarebytes, PC Spy Doctor and others.Whatever the reasons are for trying them out and replacing them, I can tell you that none of the previous a.v., with the exception of Norton, has affected the stability of the system and slowed it down to the massive extent I am experiencing now.
I have no other security software on the system, I have disabled Windows Defender after installing Avast. The trial version is 6.0.1203.
Ittiandro,
To set the record straight, Windows Defender isn’t an anti virus program the only 2 in the list of programs you mentioned that are AV’s are Eset 32 and Norton.
The question now is how you removed these 2. Simply using the add/remove function only removes a portion of the AV and eventually will conflict with the current AV installed.
The following should help you uninstall what ever may be left of the old AV’s:
Download the REMOVAL TOOL for your current Anti Virus Program by following the Guide offered here:
