Windows 7 Firewall incompatibility

Where should I appeal to Avast team so that they’d try fixing this problem? Thank you.

Well if you read my post from above then you know that this problem will end in the avast 2014(v9), they planing to change the old webshield driver, so have patience.

This is an odd situation.
I use comodo firewall 5.12 with avast 8 and have experienced no issues in terms of outbound control.
Incidentally windows firewall by default allows all outbound connections.

Thanks.

I haven’t had the time to try the new Avast 2014 yet but am wondering if anyone already tried it and if the Windows 7 Firewall outbound protection incompatibility is fixed now?

(There’s another topic about it:)

Thank you!

I don’t think it is fixed.I tried yesterday to block Uninstaller app with Windows Firewall
and it didn’t work.Maybe I did something wrong, but I don’t think Windows Firewall outbound rules
are working with Avast Web Shield in Avast 9.0.2006 Free (Windows 7).

You are very right. I updated to Avast 2014 and the Windows 7 Firewall outboud protection still doesn’t work. I’m quite disappointed, i tought that they will fix this with the new version…

Avast team, are you planning to fix this anytime soon? Please, I need this function (Wt outbound firewall). :slight_smile:

THANK YOU, AVAST, FOR FINALLY FIXING THIS! ;D

Now I am able to use the Windows 7 Firewall Outbound Protection! :slight_smile:

@Bellzemos
I recommend Firewall App Blocker (portable) to easily block apps with Windows Firewall.
It is working great.

First time Deep Screen is going to scan it and exclude it.

Thanx, but I’m thinking of maybe installing Binisoft’s Windows Firewall Control.

Well indeed is a good addition. Also I recommend Tinywall (it’s free). Personally I prefer to create block rules without any other software(old school :D) because I noticed that even Tinywall/Binisoft somehow slowdown your pc when a new alert is shown.

Kind regards,

Perhaps on your particular configuration, i certainly have not noticed any slowdowns from either of those programs and i have used/tested both quite extensively. Currently using the registered version of WFC from binisoft and very satisfied with the program, works well on Win 8.1 also. Btw there was a new version posted today:

You can follow the development of the program at Wilders forums: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=347370&page=20

I was too happy too fast…

I have an executable file which when executed opens my Firefox and visits some site on the internet.

I properly blocked that exe file for outbound connection in Windows 7 Firewall and the file was still able to visit the site on the internet. :frowning:

Then I blocked it with Sandboxie and it was not able to access internet.

What’s the problem?

If it is Firefox who does the network connection (even if instructed to do so by other executable) you need to block Firefox.

@lukor
Can you please see if you can reproduce this problem:

Should be fixed now.

So if an executable that is blocked calls Firefox Firefox will be able to access the internet? I tought that the blocked rule transfers to all programs called from the original blocked exe?

Agreed…this does not seem to make sense…I would think you need to block the EXE…if it can run a browser then it truly is not “blocked” is it ? Blocking the Browser itself would not be a solution.

Looking forward to the Avast Team clarification.

@ Avast! team: What’s up with that? Please explain, thank you. :slight_smile:

Will this be changed in the next version maybe?
