Windows 7 hanging on aswrvrt.sys

Hello all,

Since an avast software update on 20/7/2014, my Acer Windows 7 64 bit OS does not boot. It is stuck on aswrvrt.sys. I can get to F8 and use command prompt on repair.

I have looked through this forum for a solution and done the following

SFC /SCANNOW
fix mbr
chkdsk c: /r

chkdsk made the booting period go faster but it still gets stuck on aswrvrt.sys

I also downloaded FRST64.exe and please find attached the txt file for your benefit @essexboy

The hard drive seems ok as I can access my files through notepad however I just cant boot up to the login screen.

Any help will be very useful indeed.

Hi what happened prior to the non-booting ?

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix
On completion try a normal boot

Thanks! I believe that Avast got updated after the PC came out of sleep mode. It then went back into sleep mode due to inactivity on the PC. Since then it has not been able to boot up.

I have run the FRST64.exe as stated and clicked fix however on normal boot, it still went to blue screen and on safe mode boot, it still is stuck at aswrvrt.sys.

I have attached fixlog.txt for your benefit.

Many thanks

This will disable Avast services from starting. Try a normal boot after this

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix
On completion try a normal boot

Thanks for the response.

I have used the downloaded file and run “fix” and upon rebooting, CLASSPNP.SYS hangs the booting process.

Thanks

Could you now run startup repair three times, rebooting between each

Will do immediately

Hi Essexboy, I did as you said but the system still hangs at classpnp.sys. Is there anything else that can be done?

Cheers

Unfortunately no, it will be time to back up and re-install I am afraid

Funny enough that is exactly what I am doing.

Thank you for your time and effort in trying to sort this out!

Sorry we could not get a better result

Ah at least we tried!

Many thanks indeed
