Windows 7 Ultimate can't start after upgrading Avast! 8.0.1489

Having a problem after upgrading Avast! 7.0.1490 to Avast! 8.0.1489.
Windows 7 Ultimate doesn’t start. Have to start from restore point and then it’s still old version of Avast!.
Program is Avast! Internet Security antivirus.

1490 is a business client, du you use avast! EP…??

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

No help, stillstarting only from restoring point.
I have to upgrade Avast! internet security from 7.0.1489 to 8.0.1489.
and I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

1489 is the latest stable build.

  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV did you use before avast!..??

No other antivirus software. Avast! Internet Security 7.0.1489 is the latest.

Right click the avast icon and click on “About avast!”.
Which version shows up there…??

It is 7.0.1490. Now it can not turn on. There is cross over icon. And it says no protected if i press fix, nothing happens.

As said, 1490 is a business client, do you use avast! EP…??
If not, follow the instructions in Reply #2 and don’t run a system restore afterwards.

No I don’t use EP. I think it will only start with restoring point again but I will try again.

  1. OK, so let’s forget about 1490.
  2. What do you (exactly) mean…?? What problem do/did you have with 1489…??

If you create a system restore point, you must first disable the avast! self protection mode or,
That restore point, when use, will corrupt avast!
The following video I created should make this clear and help you created safe restore points:
http://youtu.be/A9yArbiAHHY

So I tried again reply #2 removing Avast! 7 internet security in safe mode and then installed Avast! 8 and it only starts with restore point. And this restore point is corrupted. This is strange “loop” because I didn’t follow video example when the Avast! 7 was last working.

Let’s check for an infection.

Please attach your logs. (AdwCleaner, MBAM, OTL and aswMBR…!!)
Instructions: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

I tried those malware programs, nothing founded.
Tried also system image recovery file and Avast! version 7.0.1474, works perfect!
Then upgraded to version Avast! 8.0.1489 and after restarting, then windows welcome flag, then black screen and automatic reboot, then have to do starting from system recovery point again. Looks like my windows 7 64bit system doesn’t work with version 8.0.1489 after all several upgrading times, maybe motherboard is too old (Abit AB9pro)!!!. Thanks anyway!!
