Windows 7 will not boot

This is not my laptop so I do not have an exact timeline or any info on when this problem started. Usually I can get through such a problem but this one has me stumped.

Windows 7 64 bit will not boot
safe mode - last file loaded is aswrvrt.sys and then it just hangs
tried startup repair, last known good, and restore point all unsuccessfully

this problem led me here upon searching for the aswrvrt.sys file to see what may be hanging

I have attached the FRST log that I’m assuming is need for help.

Also all the restore points were listed as Avast restore points not Windows. Not sure what this means exactly.

Also got one piece of info from owner which wasn’t very helpful.

Some time in last 2 months it was turned on and this is when the problem started. No intentional updates or programs were installed prior to the problem but I can see in the log that there were files modified and created starting in December

Hi initially I will roll back the registry

Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

What was the thing that pointed to restoring the reg?

I was reading through the tutorial for the program and noticed that it makes actions very easy compared to doing them from cmd.

That was the last good registry backup, sometimes the registry gets corrupted

Are you able to boot now ?

Normal and safe mode have same results

This one will disable Avast

Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST

Looks like the fix was successful but it did not fix the problem. Still not booting up. safe mode now hangs after atipcie.sys

So now this appears to be a windows or system problem. I thought for sure that it was a problem with Avast loading

All I can suggest at this stage is to back up any data you need and restore to factory settings. Do you need a programme to back up the data

I have programs to backup data as well as Linux to run to get data off. I have to wait for the owner to get back to me about what might be needed off the drive. I have never run across this problem without a drive failure so we’ll see what happens.

I appreciate your help disabling the Avast so I could be sure that was not the issue
